Chemist (FT)

We are looking for a dedicated individual with a positive and friendly attitude to join our analytical chemistry team. This position will require someone who is professional, comfortable working around Cannabis, and is familiar with working on a team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Data analysis, troubleshooting, and maintenance of HPLC-DAD and GC-FID.

  • Ensure adherence to GLP and ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and safety regulations.

  • Assist in other aspects of lab operation: sample prep, sample staging, and cleaning.

  • Flexibility with ever changing state regulations.

  • Assist in continuous improvement of in-house methods and quality controls.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. In Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field, ACS-Certified degree preferred.

  • 1-3 years of experience.

  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience in working in a cGLP and/or ISO accredited environment is a plus.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The candidate must have strong collaboration skills, excellent communication and written skills.

  • The candidate must possess keen organizational skills and be detail oriented.

  • Experience with HPLC or GC analysis and troubleshooting is a preferred.

  • Experience with LC-MS/MS or GC-MS/MS is a plus.

  • Flexible hours between 7a – 7p, Mon-Sat.

  • Able to find reliable transportation. East Oakland – BART station is within walking distance.

  • Local candidates preferred, no relocation stipend available.

Laboratory Assistant (PT)

Responsibilities include:

  • Staging and labeling of incoming samples and vials

  • Photographing samples

  • Preparing samples for microbiological and chemical analysis

  • Checking inventory and replenishing supplies

  • Strictly following SOPs and Manager's direction in training, sample handling, and documentation

  • Assist in maintaining lab cleanliness

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years or older

  • 1+ years of lab work experience or lab course work preferred

  • Background in Chemistry, Biology or Microbiology a plus

  • Available to work flexible hours between 7a-7p, Monday-Saturday

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Able to find reliable transportation to East Oakland - BART station is within walking distance

  • Ability to spend extended periods of time on your feet

This position is 20-30 hrs/week, and the compensation is $20/hr. A flexible schedule (working on weekends) is a plus!

Client Relations Associate (FT)

We're looking for a dedicated, hardworking individual with a positive and friendly attitude to join our Cannabis quality assurance testing laboratory as an in-house client relations associate. We pride ourselves in maintaining a collaborative environment where our teams support and work together cohesively. This is a unique opportunity to join a company at the front lines of the changing Cannabis industry in California and contribute to the ability of patients or adult consumers to receive safe, clean Cannabis.

The Client Services Associate reports to the Client Relations Manager, acting as an in-house customer service representative by handling walk-in samples, phone calls, and emails at our physical location in Oakland.

The client services associate serves as an intermediary between the laboratory and client services team - this individual is crucial in the success of our company and of our clients by fielding client inquiries, helping to identify issues, obtaining pertinent information from clients and communicating these to client relations manager.

Conversely, CSA must work with CRM to disseminate important information from lab to clientele - i.e. basic scientific theory and protocols, billing issues, delays in service, data entry and review, new tech, impending regulatory changes, streamlining schedules and any other info as needed.

CSA also works with the lab team as necessary to expedite flow of samples and help prioritize specific samples.

The CSA may also help contribute to our social media, blog writing, marketing and sales efforts or other relatable topics. If you have an interest in exploring other ways to contribute to the success of the company, we're happy to support you!

Applicant Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree required

  • Coursework or interest in chemistry, biology, or other science fields is a plus!

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills - The CSA plays an important role in educating and disseminating important scientific concepts to clientele in simple and understandable terms

  • Experience with Quickbooks a plus

  • Availability M-F 9-6pm and some Saturdays as necessary

Associate Scientist - Microbiology Department (FT)

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with team members in optimizing laboratory workflow 

  • Daily maintenance of QA/QC program

  • Aid the sample intake process, prepare samples for microbiological analysis, perform foreign material analysis, and photograph samples

  • Communicate with both customer service and chemistry teams to identify sample intake discrepancies, client needs, requests and precautionary measures 

  • Perform microbial analysis and identification utilizing both classic and advanced technologies including plating techniques, petrifilm, biochemical analysis, MALDI-TOF MS, and PCR assays

  • Assist in maintenance of ISO:IEC 17025 accreditation 

  • Analyze and report results of microbiological assays for the detection of Shiga-toxin E. coli, Salmonella spp., and

  • Aspergillus flavus, niger, fumigatus, terreus

  • Aid in training and reviewing laboratory technicians as work is completed

  • Participate in inter-laboratory Proficiency Testing Program twice a year 

Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in microbiology/mycology, bacteriology or related biological science

  • 1 to 3 years experience

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced laboratory environment utilizing both classic and advanced microbiological techniques (live bacterial/fungal cultures, MALDI-TOF MS, rtPCR)

  • Collaborative team player with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills

  • Experience working in a GLP and/or ISO 17025 accredited environment a plus

  • Prior laboratory experience with demonstrated sufficiency in common lab procedures, attention to detail, adherence to sterile technique and the ability to work with microscopes, analytical balances and pipettes

  • Flexible hours between 7 am - 7 pm, Monday - Friday

  • Must be available to work some weekends

Scientific Sampling Associate PT (Coachella Valley Area)

We are looking for an organized and reliable professional to conduct sampling events in the collection of Cannabis and Cannabis products for state mandated compliance testing. Samplers must abide by company SOPs and safety standards and be personable and professional with clientele. This position is part-time, but will likely lead to full time employment for the right candidate.

- The laboratory is based in Oakland but we are seeking an individual based in the Coachella Valley area (or adjacent) counties to perform sampling events, (mainly located in these counties, although some may be needed in the Los Angeles or Orange County area)

*This position is NOT laboratory- based. Samplers must abide by scientific sampling techniques, but sample collection happens at the premises of licensed Cannabis distributors, and samplers do not work in the laboratory to prepare samples for analysis.

Responsibilities
- Prepare sampling forms 
- communicate/ coordinate with clients to ensure all necessary data is collected prior to a sampling event. 
- Enter sampling data into laboratory information management system
- Drive to and from sampling events (may require several hours on the road each way)
- Conduct representative sampling following SOP's
- Help with maintaining supply inventory

Applicant Must:
- Be proficient with Google Suite (Drive, Sheets, Calendar, and GMail)
- Be able to lift 50 lbs
- Remain focused during fast, but repetitive work
- Be comfortable working around Cannabis
- Possess a clean driving record and car insurance
- Be willing to drive 3-4 hours each way to a sampling event if necessary
- Be over 21
- Be articulate in both written and verbal communication
- Present themselves in a professional manner

Desired Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (courses or interest in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related science is a plus)
- Scientific sampling experience or laboratory experience a plus
- Data entry experience
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment
